Games of the Year 2009

This year I will continue my tradition by picking what I think were the best games of the year.

Best Action/Adventure Game

Winner: Batman: Arkham Asylum

Runner-Up: Assassins’s Creed 2, Resident Evil 5, Uncharted 2 & Brutal Legend

A lot of people were surprised about how great this game was. Whenever you hear about a Batman game, people do start to cringe. Not anymore as this was a great game and a great experience. And considering this year’s releases, it had a lot of competition.

Best Fighting Game

Winner: Fight Night Round 4

Runner-Up: UFC 2009 Undisputed

No disrespect to Street Fight IV but that’s not my style. Besides Fight Night Round 4 was just a complete experience and was a lot of fun. Round 4 improves a lot on Round 3 which itself was a great game. UFC 2009 also deserves a nod here but I still feel it can improve a lot more.

Best Single-Player Game

Winner: Assassins Creed 2

Runner-Up: Infamous

Assassins Creed 2 did a lot of things right. It improved on a lot of problems the first game had and ended up creating a great experience. I really enjoyed the story here, minus the ending.

Best Platform Game

Winner: Trials HD

Runner-Up: ‘Splosion Man

Platforming games are no specifically my favorite category but you know what, Trials HD was a very great game. There was a big risk of failure here since not a lot of people knew what this game was. Given the title and the lack of hype going in, I think the game was great. It’s the perfect mix of skill and fun.

Best Racing/Driving Game

Winner: Need for Speed Shift

Runner-Up: Forza Motorsport 3

There were too many great racing games for me to pick from this year. I could have put Dirt 2 in here if I wanted to, but you know what Shift has to be one of my favorite games. It did something no other game has ever done, make me want to drive in cockpit view. The game is phenomenal in cockpit view and all the other features of this game make it a complete experience.

Best Shooter

Winner: Modern Warfare 2

Runner-Up: Halo 3: ODST

I’m sorry are you expecting any other title to win best shooter? The only thing we can argue here is runner-up. But people forget that ODST was a great game in itself. If only Firefight had matchmaking.

Best Strategy Game

Winner: Halo Wars

Yeah so what, this game is basically running unopposed in my opinion. That does not take away from how great this game was. This is one of the only games to actually get me interested in a RTS.

Best Graphic Technology

Winner: Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X.

Runner-up: Need for Speed: Shift

A great game considering what it is doing. But 0n top on that is this beautiful world that you can fly by and admire. Sometimes you just want to fly in the city as close as you can, just to see what you can do. Most of the time it ends in a crash.

Best Story

Winner: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Runner-up: Batman: Arkham Asylum

Although it has it’s faults, the game did have a great story and I was very interested the entire time. It was a long game and to keep me interested the entire time is a testament to how great the story is.

Best Movie Game

Winner: Wanted: Weapons of Fate

Runner-up: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

You are probably cringing at the idea of a movie game but you know what, these two games were great. Honestly I loved Wanted and the game was great, although short. Wolverine was also a great game.

Best Multiplayer

Winner: Modern Warfare 2

Runner-up: Left 4 Dead 2

Again are you surprised? Although it is important to note that this game just doesn’t do deathmatch. They did add Spec-Ops this year which is pure awesomeness. Please add more.

Best Co-Op Game

Winner: Resident Evil 5

Runner-up: Borderlands

People forgot about this game, but it is a great game designed with multiplayer in mind. I had a lot of great and bad experiences in this game.

Best New IP

Winner: Borderlands

Runner-up: inFamous

Please add more to this franchise. Please add more support. Please!! This game came out of nowhere and completely ate up a lot of my time.

Best Innovative Design

Winner: Red Faction: Guerrilla

Red Faction: Guerrilla had on great idea and it worked well and that’s the building destruction. Granted that’s not an original idea but the way they did it was really innovative and fun.

Best Game Add-On

Winner: Fallout 3: Broken Steel

Runner-up: GTA IV DLC

Level cap increase, no game ender, added story, more weapons. Really how do you compete with that?

Biggest Surprise

Winner: Borderlands

Runner-up: Batman: Arkham Asylum

Like I said earlier, this game did come out of nowhere and was so great.

Biggest Disappointment

Winner: Tony Hawk: Ride

Runner-up: Nintendo manufacturers

Do I really need to make a comment here about Ride? And Nintendo, when you release a game, please make sure I can buy it. Don’t release a New Mario in limited quantities.

Best Messed Up ending

Winner: F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

Runner-up: Modern Warfare 2

Okay, yes I know the first FEAR had a messed up ending, but you know what FEAR 2 was really really messed up. I don’t want to talk about it. And Call of Duty, the whole ending section is crazy.

Most Messed Up Story

Winner: Bionic Commando

Your wife is your arm! That’s all I have to say about that.

Best Achievements

Winner: Halo 3:ODST

With the Vidmaster and firefight achievements this game did a great job with achievements.

Best Idea we need more of

Winner: FPSRPG, or whatever Borderlands is

Runner-up: Avatar awards

Yeah I know I keep talking about Borderlands. But another thing I wanted to mention was Avatar Awards. I hope more games include these in the future.

Best Downloadable Game

Winner: Shadow Complex

Runner-up: Battlefield 1943

Shadow Complex should have been a full game, but that is how great this game is. It is very Metroid like but I loved it. Battlefield 1943 was very awesome as well.

Game of the Year

Winner: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Runner-ups: Batman: Arkham Asylum, Assassin’s Creed 2, Borderlands, and Uncharted 2.

This was the harderst choice I had to make. Any of the runner-ups would have made a great choice and I would have been happy with it. But you know what Modern Warfare is a combination of all that is great in these other games and does more. With the new Spec-Ops, a great story, and great multiplayer. This is a game I will be playing for a long time.

Best Games of the Year

After much thought and consideration I finally put together my list of the best games for this past year. The difference between this list and a lot of other lists was that I didn’t just put my personal opinions in it. I went by quality, enjoyability, playability, and my own personal opinion. I also had some help from one of my friends…SupremePro. Between the two of us we have played a lot of games and together our gamerscore is over 125,000. So onto the list.

Best Action Game

Winner: Grand Theft Auto IV (Multi)

Runner-Up: Gears of War 2 (360)

GTA IV was really one of the best quality games out there this year. But you know Gears 2 does deserve some credit as well.

Best Adventure Game

Winner: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (360)

Runner-Up: Tomb Raider: Underworld (Multi)

The Force Unleashed was a true joy to play over and over again because of the adventure that you experience during the game. Let’s hope they improve upon it and let’s not forget that Tomb Raider is still a quality game.

Best Fighting Game

Winner: Soul Calibur IV (Multi)

Runner-Up: Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)

Although I only played Super Smash Bros. and enjoyed it incredibly I can admire the work that went into Soul Calibur. I also know that it was a very good game and deserves best fighting game.

Best Music/Rhythm Game

Winner: Rock Band 2 (Multi)

Runner-Up: Guitar Hero: World Tour

This came down to only two games and Rock Band 2 is still better than Guitar Hero. Although Guitar Hero is catching up.

Best Single-Player Game

Winner: Fallout 3 (Multi)

Runner-Up: Dead Space (Multi)

Fallout 3 is really one of the best games this year and it’s a Single-Player experience like no other. If you loved Oblivion, you need to try this game. Also Dead Space does need to be mentioned as a great Single-Player game.

Best Platform Game

Winner: LittleBigPlanet (PS3)

Runner-Up: Prince of Persia (Multi)

LBP as a platformer is absolutely brilliant, now if they fixed the servers. Prince of Persia was another excellent platformer that probably could have deserved the Best Platform Game title as well.

Best Puzzle Game

Winner: Braid (360)

Runner-Up: Tomb Raider: Underworld (Multi)

A game like Braid only comes out once in a while and sometimes they’re not as good as Braid was. If you love challenging puzzles, you will love Braid. Another nod goes to Tomb Raider for their creative and intriguing puzzles.

Best Racing/Driving Game

Winner: Grid (Multi)

Runner-Up: Burnout Paradise (Multi)

CodeMasters knows how to make great racing games and Grid is no exception. Grid is one of the best racing games in a long time. Burnout Paradise was also really impressive, espically on the visual front.

Best RPG

Winner: Fallout 3 (Multi)

Runner-Up (Tie) : Lost Odyssey (360) & Fable 2 (360)

Fallout 3 again is great game and great RPG as well. It was actually harder trying to find a runner-up as both Lost Odyssey and Fable 2 were really good RPG’s.

Best Shooter

Winner: Call of Duty: World at War (Multi)

Runner-Up: Gears of War 2 (360)

Even though COD5 is just COD4 in WW2 all over again, it’s still a great game. Gears 2 on the other hand is good but still not up to the level COD5 was. Gears 2 needed better story and multiplayer.

Best First-Person

Winner: Far Cry 2 (Multi)

Runner-Up: Mirror’s Edge (Multi)

Far Cry 2 as was a great First-Person game. Didn’t have the best story but did have great gunplay and explosions. But most importantly it made you feel like you were in Africa. Mirror’s Edge was another brilliant First-Person game that could have taken the crown.

Best Sports Game

Winner: MLB 08: The Show (PS3)

Runner-Up: Madden NFL 09 (Multi)

As much as I wanted to give it to Madden I had to give it to MLB 08. The quality and graphics in that game are awesome and everything flows right but I have to give Madden props for moving in the right direction.

Best Strategy Game

Winner: Civilization Revolution (Multi)

Runner-Up: Tom Clancy’s EndWar (Multi)

Civ Rev did something to me that not many games have done and that was get me addictied. It was a great game that I played forever but something does have to be said for EndWar for taking a chance on the Voice commands and making it work.

Best Graphic Technology

Winner: Far Cry 2 (Multi)

Runner-Up: Metal Gears Solid 4: Sons of the Patriots (PS3)

I mean seriously, just look at Far Cry 2. Go burn a tree in the game and just admire it, it is beatiful. MGS4 is also very beatiful.

Best Score (Music)

Winner: Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)

Runner-Up: Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)

Both Super Smash Bros. and MGS4 had excellent music but the I had to give the edge for including so many classic tracks.

Best Story

Winner: Fable 2 (360)

Runner-Ups (Tie): Grand Theft Auto IV (Multi) / Metal Gear Soid 4 (PS3)

I absolutely loved the story of Fable 2 and how your actions affected so many things. Didn’t necessarily love the ending but it was still good. GTAIV & MGS4 also did a great job in story telling.

Best “Why did they name it this?”

Winner: Far Cry 2 (Multi)

Runner-Up: Prince of Persia (Multi)

Seriously Far Cry 2, why? There is no mention at all to the first Far Cry at all. Heck they don’t have anything in common except they are both first person shooters. That’s it, I’m serious. As for Prince of Persia..I have no idea. Is he from Persia? Is he a Prince? What about the other three games?

Best Multiplayer Game

Winner: Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)

Runner-Up: Call of Duty: World at War (Multi)

I realize this game is not perfect but it was a great game to play with your friends and online. Fun is the best part of multiplayer. As for Call of Duty 5 it was still great on the multiplayer side and included zombies.

Best Co-Op Game

Winner: Left 4 Dead (360)

Runner-Ups (Tie): Gears of War 2 (360) & Army of 2 (Multi)

Left 4 Dead is best played in Co-Op and usually only is Co-Op. At being a straigh Co-Op game with some Multiplayer thrown in it is fabolus. Other great Co-Op games were Gears of War 2 and Army of Two.

Best New IP

Winner: LittleBigPlanet (PS3)

Runner-Up: Dead Space (Multi)

LittleBigPlanet was awesome plain and simple. It was an ingenious design and I loved every second. Dead Space was another great game that was new this year.

Most Innovative Design

Winner: Tom Clancy’s Endwar (Multi)

Runner-Up: Mirror’s Edge (Multi)

EndWar used Voice to control units on the screen and it worked surprisingly well. Mirror’s Edge was another game that took a chance on a new concept and turned out pretty well.

Best Idea that Almost Worked

Winner: Legendary (Multi)

Runner-Up: Army of Two (Multi)

I though Legendary had a great idea with tackeling mythical creatures but it didn’t quite work out. If it had better game play it would have worked great but it didn’t, they took a chance and I applaud it. Army of Two also had a great idea by being driven by Co-Op and it almost worked as well.

Most Humerous Game

Winner: BattleField Bad Company (Multi)

Runner-Up: Banjo Kazoo: Nuts & Bolts (360)

I thought Bad Company had a great sense of humor and there were some funny video released in promotion for this game. Let’s hope they keep it up.

Best In-Game Add-On

Winner: Mass Effect: Bring Down the Sky (360)

Runner-Up: MGS4 Pack in LittleBigPlanet (PS3)

Mass Effect introduced a new planet, a new race, and a new mission as DLC for everyone and I thought it was brilliant. LittleBigPlanet also came out with level expanisons based on MGS4 and I thought it was brilliant.

Best Aftermarket Support

Winner: Halo 3 (360)

Runner-Up: Rock Band 2 (Multi)

Halo 3 added new maps, new DLC, new playlists and they even announced a new game this year. All for a game that came out last year, that’s a great thing. Rock Band 2 got good tracks each week but some were better than others and seriously a country pack? For a Rock game?

Biggest Surprise

Winner: Tom Clancy’s EndWar (Multi)

Runner-Up: LittleBigPlanet (PS3)

EndWar made Voice work as a controller and that surprised me. LBP also surprised me because I didn’t expect it to be as fun as it was.

Biggest Disappointment

Winner: Playstation Home (PS3)

Runner-Up: Too Human (Multi)

If I was to get started on Home this would be 8 pages long. Trust me it sucks, don’t waste your time. Don’t even bother looking at it. Too Human was also a disappointment because we waited 10 years for it and we got a average game.

Worst Game

Winner: Wii Music (Wii)

Runner-Up: Cooking Mama: World Kitchen (Wii)

Seriously Wii Music sucks. Don’t even bother, don’t think about it. Cooking Mama is just as bad, really really bad.

Best Achievements or Trophies in a Game

Winner: Fable 2 (360)

Runner-Up: LittleBigPlanet (PS3)

Both Fable 2 and LBP had a great mix of Achievements & Trophies (respictively). But Fable 2 had something for everyone. From kicking chickens, to having a orgy, to finding dolls. An enjoyable experience.

Best Ending

Winner: Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)

Runner-Up: Lost Odyssey (360)

The ending for MGS was epic. It answered so many questions and ended so many things. I won’t spoil it here.

Worst Ending

Winner: Far Cry 2 (Multi)

Runner-Up: Fable 2 (360)

Far Cry 2’s ending was retarded. The was no end, it made no sense. From friends that were dead magically alive again and backstabing you to help out the jackal (the man you are hunting to kill). It made do sense at all. Not even one part. As for Fable 2, well it just didn’t live up to the story that was setting it up.

Xbox Live or Playstation Network Game of the Year

Winner: Braid (360)

Runner-Up: Castle Crashers (360)

Braid and Castle Crashers and both brilliant games. Both a 1200 Points on XBLA and I highly suggest you pick up either one if not both, you will not be dissapointed.

Wii Game of the Year

Winner: Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)

Runner-Up: Boom Blox (Wii)

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was such a great game that you can play over and over again espically with friends. As far as Boom Blox goes, it is also another great Wii game.

PS3 Game of the Year

Winner: Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)

Runner-Up: LittleBigPlanet (PS3)

Both are must-owns for PS3 owners. LBP is just pure fun and MGS4 is pure awesomeness. You can MGS4 however you like and the story is amazing.

Xbox 360 Game of the Year

Winner: Gears of War 2 (360)

Runner-Up: Fable 2 (360)

Despite the online issues and glitches in Gears of War 2, it is still a great game to play and Horde is a lot of fun. Fable 2 also has a great single player experience that everyone can enjoy.

Developer of the Year

Winner: DICE (BattleField Bad Company & Mirror’s Edge)

Runner-Ups (Tie): Bethesda (Fallout 3) / Valve (Left 4 Dead)

DICE had two great games this year and I think they deserve Developer of the Year because both titles were very solid. Bethesda & Valve both deserve recoginition for there games this year.

Game of the Year

Winner: Grand Theft Auto IV (Multi)

Runner-Ups (Tie): Fallout 3 (Multi) / Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)

This was the hardest choice. But ultimaley GTA IV had everything. It was the best overall experince among them all. It came down to these 3 and really GTAIV barely outperformed the others and it is my game of the year.

Far Cry 2 Review

One of the biggest game I was looking forward to this winter was Far Cry 2. I enjoyed the first Far Cry and my strongest game style has always been the FPS genre. So how is the sequel?

Story: One of the biggest things I noticed first is that this isn’t a sequel. There is not mention of Jack Carver, no powers, no nothing from the first game. This really made me sad because I actually enjoyed the story from the first game and loved the powers and abilites. So my question is why is this Far Cry 2? Instead of a new IP? Well probably because they want to garner fans of the last game into this new game.

As far as the actual story goes, you are in Africa trying to hunt the Jackal. You’re character has maleria (really? why?) and are put in a middle of a war between UFLL and APR. Then you do mission for each sides leading with eventually you trying to stop the Jackal. Honestly the maleria is just annoying, it has nothing to do with the story. It just makes you do side mission to get medicine and makes you care about people trying to get out of the country. I’ll get into the end a little bit later.

Gameplay: This is of course a FPS and that’s how I’m going to grade it on that. My biggest gripe was disengrating weapons. Guns that jam when you use them too much encouraging you to pick other weapons up. It really gets annoying when this happen 90% of the time when you are in a gunfight. If it didn’t happen all the time I would be alright with it. The other thing I want to mention is fire. Fire in this game is awesome. You can burn grass and trees, which is really the entire game. Fire is fun and the engine that controls the fire is really really awesome. I think this has to be one of the best engines I’ve ever seen.

Spoilers: Here come my biggest gripe and it involves the ending. Throught the game you are given buddies who help you when you get hurt. They also give you alternate routes of completing mission. Even during the story some of your buddies die. However at the end all of your buddies reappear (even one’s that are dead) and want to take your diamonds. No explanation at all, I mean WTF? How are these people alive? Then at the end when you confront the Jackal you work with him to leave the country. Then nothing happens, at all. You go either kill yourself or go to the border and then kill yourself (never see you actually do)

+ Fire engine

– Disengrating weapons

+ Open-world gameplay

– Not enough vehicles to travel with & no fast-travel

+ Multiplayer & Map-editor

– Story & Story ending

Score: 87 (Or B+) Overall I liked this game. It did get really long. Multiplayer is the real charm here and it is really fun. Not to mention how awesome the Map-Editor is. I’d say rent this game if you love the FPS genre as this game shines but really try to ignore the story and enjoy the game and you’ll be alright.

Call of Duty:World at War Beta (includes code)

As Novemeber 11th approaches, the Call of Duty: World at War Beta has been released. With the popularity of Call of Duty 4 and how great that game was, everyone is looking forward to the release of this game. So how is the beta for this game? Well for starters this is not made by the same people as COD4, it’s the same people as COD3. Yes that COD, and yes we are back in World War 2 again.

One of the things that I really enjoyed was that they used the COD4 engine for the entire game. So basically all it really is, is World War 2 setting with the COD4 engine. Somehow though it still doesn’t look that great. Maybe it’s me or maybe it’s the setting. One thing they did add was the ability to lose an arm or leg when you get shot, which is really gruesome.

With the World War 2 setting you get the the World War 2 guns which everyone should be familiar with but probably disappointed with because you’d rather have COD4 guns. Another addition is the voice of Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutharland) which I love. Other additions are the new perks, in which a couple are very creative and enchance game play. We also have to rewards for getting kill streaks. For 3 kills u get a Recon Plane, 5 you get Mortar strikes (the kill cam for this looks awesome) and for 7 you get the dogs. Dogs are gruesome and you can kill them as well to gain XP.

Overall the COD:World at War Beta was alright. I’m excited to see what the final game feels like and how the Singler Player is handled. I wasn’t really too impressed, cause really it’s just another WW2 game but this time in Japan and with the COD4 engine. Of course if you would like the see for yourself what I’m talking about and you have a 360 you can use this code: KDWFC-QHXD8-MGFG3-QPC6G-WFDCB. I only have one so first come first serve, sorry.

The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior Review

Of the Mummy movies the Scorpion King was always the worst review movies. It wasn’t because of the actors but because of the sheer stupidity of the film. If you didn’t know The Scorpion King is a Prequel to the Mummy 2 and now we have the Scorpion King 2, which is a prequel to the Scorpion King. In a sense this is a prequel to a prequel of a sequel. You see where this is going? Not to mention the fact that this was straight to DVD.

Acting: On a acting level I didn’t have too much of a problem with either Michael Copon or Karen David, but then we get to Randy Couture. You probably know him from MMA fame (formly of the UFC). The only thing postive I can say about Randy is that he’s not an actor. This is not what he is paid to do, he is paid to kick someone’s ass in the Octagon. That’s what he does best, hell he even MMA fights someone in the movie. But seriously, he can’t act. I didn’t expect him too either. He does have his moments here and there but really Randy don’t quite your day job.

Plot: You know I was one of the few that enjoyed the Scorpion King. It strayed a lot from the Mummy series but with Scorpion King 2, it gets even worse. I wish I can describe the plot to you but I lost interest in the first 5 minutes.  Something about the Underworld, getting a sword, and getting revenge. Basically I was able to predict everything that was about to happen, it sucked.

Overall: One of the unknown rules of filmmaking is that when you have a fight between two people, you need to be able to see both people. Person vs. invisible things only work in horror movies, not action movies or anything else. It is just gay.

+ Uhhhh…….

– Invisible fighting

– Randy Couture

– Story / Plot

– Pretty Much everything

Score: 43 (4.3 or F) AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Tropic Thunder Review

Tropic Thunder is a movie spoofing the process of making movies and the actors the play in these movies. The plot of the movie is a bunch of A-list actors (both in real-life and in the movie) go to Vietnam to create a movie about a book (that turns out to later be fake) based on the Vietnam War. Of course the director decides to actually put them in danger by putting them in Vietnam to get shot at, hilarity follows. Of course some of the actors don’t believe it is real and don’t want to break character because they believe they are still being filmed. But how does this movie do overall?

Visual Effects: The film actually was filmed in Hawaii and of course Hawaii is always beatiful. It did kind of seem like they were in Vietnam from time to time but since I’ve never really been to Vietnam I can’t be 100% positive on that. To my enjoyment, when they had an airstrike scence they actually used some old-school airplanes that would have been used in the Vietnam-era. Couldn’t really tell if they were CGI or really real but they looked real.

Acting: The funniest thing for me during the entire movie was the cameo’s. At the beginning of the movie they had fake trailers which showcased in-character movies played by Black, Stiller, and Downey Jr. Of course they spoofed other movies but to me the funniest was Downey Jr. doing a movie trailer with Tobey Maguire, which has to be seen. There was also cameo’s by Lance Bass & Tom Cruise, both of which were hillarious espically the Tom Cruise one. I was actually suprised to see it was him. Between the three main actors (Black, Stiller, & Downey Jr.) I believe Robert Downey Jr. really really shined. His career is at a high note this year alongside Iron Man. I could have done with Jack Black though and I did enjoy Ben Stiller to a point but that’s about it.

Overall: For being a comedy movie, it achieved it’s goal. And I belive the comedy movie is the only goal they could have achieved with this. It’s not an entire movie of spoofs, it’s just straight up comedy/action that happens to be making fun of other movies. In the end I actually enjoyed most of the movie.

+ Robert Downey Jr.’s performance

– Jack Black’s performance

+ Cameo’s

Score: 92 (9.2 or A-) with recommandations to go see if you like Comedy movies

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army Review

When Hellboy first came out a few years ago, people were split between if they liked it or not. I believe it was at 50/50 as to who liked it and who hated it. The first Hellboy was actually alright, it wasn’t the best but still very good. With the sequel coming out, how will people react to this? Will more people enjoy it or will more people hate it?

Before I even begin, there is one thing I must say. I hated the opening, this had to be one of the worst openings I’ve ever seen. I really do hate it when a movie starts off with text, please don’t do that it sucks. Then they cut to Hellboy as a child with his father on Christmas. His father of course tells him the story of the Golden Army with the worst graphics ever showing the story as he reads along. I mean I could have drawn better graphics for the opening scence and I’m the worst drawer around.

Graphics: Once out of the opening scence the graphics and visual designs were very well done. I found it easy to enjoy the sets and costumes as I could appreciate all the detail they put into it. This was really an achievement in set design as well as costumes. Some of the CGI was very well done and it was hardly noticable and very enjoyable.

Story: The story about the Golden Army and it’s origins and coming back to life I had no problem with. I really didn’t have any problems at all with this Golden Army storyline, it was everything in between. I was able to forgive the Liz/Hellboy love story but the dialogue between the two were stupid. They tried to give “Blue” a love story with the Princess and that was just plain retarted with it leading to “Blue” being the reason the Golden Army awoke. I mean it was really really retarded. There was too many love stories and baby for me. The was even a musical between Hellboy and “Blue”, seriously that has no place here.

Overall: At the end, I really did not enjoy this movie and I wish I wouldn’t had seen it. Although the costumes and setdesign was excellent, the story really really killed it for me. There were things that didn’t belong in the Hellboy story, I knew this without reading the comics.

+ Costumes/Set-design

– Almost all the dialouge

– The Story (with the exception of the Golden Army)

– A musical???

– Too much love and babies

Overall: 73 (or C-) with recommandations to not see it unless it’s free on TV and you have nothing better to do.
